65th IFLA General Conference in Bangkok 1999

The Open Session of the Section Social Science Libraries will take place under the topic
"State of the Art of Social Science Information - thinking local, acting global?".

A half-day Workshop will be organized with the title:
"6 billion people and counting - statistical information for all the world's people "
jointly with the section GIOP, Government Information and Official Publications

Other meetings sponsored or initiated by the section are the meetings of two discussion groups:

Monday, 23 August, 10:30-11:50
Genealogy and Local History Discussion Group,
a newly founded discussion group, which was just created in Amsterdam last year.
They will have a workshop under the theme:
Working at the grass roots:
Helping patrons to find their progenitors and to uncover the history that they made

Monday, 23 August, 10:30-11:50
Corporate and For Profit Libraries discussion group,
has planned to organize an Open Forum with the theme
Knowledge Organization and Business Intelligence as a Task for the Special Librarian
 



 

64th IFLA General Conference in Amsterdam 1998

The Open Session of the Section Social Science Libraries took place under the topic
"Libraries in Support of Education" and brought together National Librarians of Education from all over the world. Result of this meeting is the project of a general directory of this type of Social Science Library!
 



 

63rd IFLA General Conference in Copenhagen 1997

The Open Session of the
Section Social Science Libraries
took place under the topic
"Business and Economics Libraries in Transition".

Some pictures from our meetings in Copenhagen?

The section's workshop was an intense debate on library management at the Copenhagen Business school library with Michael Cotta-Schønberg. 

The pre-conference seminar under the theme
"Accessing and working with
statistical data in Social Science Libraries" had to be canceled due to lack of participants.


 

62nd IFLA General Conference in Beijing1996

The Open Session of the
Section Social Science Libraries
took place under the topic
"Impact of New Technology on Libraries".
The section's workshop in Beijing
was prepared by Leif Lörring:
"Seeking Information for Development Studies"

The Social Science Virtual Library
Establishing a WWW-site for the IFLA Section on Social Science Libraries as a prototype of a topical Virtual Library.

The SSID bibliography project
Moving the files from Helsinki and making the database available online and interactively.
